Aftermath

Creative Critical Reflection How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?  My product can be used in many different ways and I represent that in my commercial. My product can be used by all different types of social groups as it is versatile  to every situation. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?  My product engages with audiences by showing how everyone can use it and it is conveyed in a positive, uplifting way that grabs the attention of the audience. I did this by showing how versatile the shoes are so the audience can relate. I added uplifting, well-known music that matched the theme and so the audience could feel familiar.      How did your production skills develop throughout this project?  My production skills developed immensely . I learned that scenes do not come out perfect the first time and sometimes you have to do more than 10 different takes. I also lear

Final product

I really like how this commercial came out. I had a lot of fun making it with my partner, Sydni. I think it looks very good. I think it is a good advertisement and could persuade people to buy converse. It was really fun to watch the pieces come together on this project. Sydni is one of my close friends and we work together well so the process went smoothly. I had a vision in my mind for this project and this commercial was perfect for my vision. Even though we had a few hiccups, we managed to work together to fix them. I definitely think I can improve on my filmmaking skills and make a better film. I cannot wait to work on the next project.

Finishing up

Image
Today was the last day to edit. I had to finish up editing the commercial. I went to the draft and watched it over again. I had to figure out how to download the song so I could insert it into the video. I couldn't download it from YouTube, so I needed to find out another way. I found a website that allows you to download music as an MP4 file, so I downloaded it to my computer. Then I inserted it into iMovie. For the last scene of the commercial, I needed to make a logo. I searched for a converse logo I liked, but I couldn't find one right away. I found one but it had a white background and I needed one with a transparent background. I couldn't find one with a transparent background, so I inserted the one with a white background into a website the converts it to transparent. I downloaded the picture and put it into google docs. I made the background black and inserted the logo. I then had to look at my research blog to remember the slogan. Then, I typed the slogan into the

Putting the pieces together

To edit the commercial, I used iMovie. I have never used iMovie to edit before so I had to learn how to use it first. I watched YouTube videos on how to edit on this platform. It seemed easier than any other editing platforms I have used before. After watching videos to learn how to use it, I started editing. First, I had to send the video clips from my phone to my laptop. I then opened iMovie and imported the clips. I put them into the order according to my storyboard and trimmed them to the length I needed. I adjusted the colors and brightness of the videos to make them more colorful and appealing. It was time to decide music. My partner and I went through many songs. I searched for songs that were upbeat and uplifting to support the active aspect of our commercial. I knew I wanted to use a very well known song so viewers could sing along and remember the commercial better. I went on YouTube again and searched for a very long time. I couldn't find a song that fit my vision so I

We found a soccer ball

Image
Today, we filmed for the second day. The only scene that needed to be filmed was the soccer scene. I forgot to bring the soccer ball to school again so Sydni brought a football just in case we needed to change plans. We didn't think we could find a soccer ball so we started filming a scene where I was kicking a field goal. Luckily there was a soccer ball on the field from soccer tryouts yesterday. To film the scene, Sydni was at a low angle and recorded a shot of me dribbling the ball. I passed the ball and then ran towards the camera and lifted up my shoe so you could see the converse logo. It took 2 tries to get a good shot. It was so hot outside and I was sweating so much already. We asked the other groups that were filming on the field if they needed to use the soccer ball after us. There were about 5 other groups outside at the time, and one of the needed the ball. I gave it to them and Sydni and I headed inside. We stopped at the water fountain because it was so hot outside

Change of plans

Today was the first day to film the commercial. I started by talking with my partner about how we were going to film the scenes. My partner and I decided to film the scenes by convenience and not order. This helped things go quicker so we did not have to keep moving locations and back. The first scene my partner and I filmed was in the classroom setting. My partner filmed a low shot of my sneakers below the desk. This took my partner, Sydni, a couple attempts to finally get the perfect shot for my vision. The next scene was supposed to be in the gym and I would be playing volleyball, but we changed it. I decided it would be hard to shoot in the gym with the volleyball net because it is frequently taken down. If we did decide to film it, we couldn’t have filmed it today because I forgot to bring the volleyball to school. So, in place of the volleyball scene, I decided a scene running up the stairs would be better. I moved to the media center stairs where I filmed Sydni running up the st
