Big fall

 Today, we were supposed to start filming at 10 AM. I texted Felipe and asked when he wanted me to come over. He wasn't responding and I was really confused because he usually wakes up pretty early. I just decided to get ready and then relax until he texted me back. I showered and got dressed first. Then I did my makeup and hair. I decided to watch some Netflix and eat breakfast. Around 11 AM, Felipe finally responded. He apologized because he overslept. I told him no worries because I got some extra time to relax! I let him have a few minutes to get ready and then I started heading to his house. I got there and Felipe told me that Logan was also coming to help us film. I got there first so we waited on Logan. We talked about what scenes we needed to film/reshoot. Felipe told me that Logan was bringing his drone for the establishing shot. I thought that was really cool and was excited to see how it would turn out. Finally, Logan arrived. He set up his drone. He realized it was low on battery so he plugged it in. While we were waiting for the drone to charge, I figured we might as well reshoot some scenes. I wanted to reshoot the scene where my father (Felipe) is yelling at me and I run back to my room. We did a couple takes, and on the 2nd or 3rd one, I slipped and fell on Felipe's carpet! I landed directly on my knee and it kind of hurt but it was super funny. I laughed at the video for a good 10 minutes. After that, I did one more take of the scene and it was perfect. When I was done with that, I asked Logan if his drone was done charging. It was, so I went outside with him to see the process. I was super cool to watch him fly it. I looked at the footage and I was really happy with it. Overall, I would say today was pretty successful.

  The way this short film was developed was very straightforward.  Although the short film is only 13 minutes, it still grabs the audience's emotional side.  The plot is on addiction and is a well known topic to everyone.  The topic can be related to others due to the fact it is a real world problem.  The short starts off by this girl ringing someone's apartment building.  Once she is let in, we see a guy wearing dark shades and gulping down orange juice.  He then takes off the shades and he doesn’t look too well.  The sister then asks if she wants to go to her place.  From just this first scene we can already infer that this film is based on addiction.  The short film is a drama which is clear from the acting, sounds, editing, and more.  The common sound used in this film was diegetic sounds.  The use of diegetic sounds helps to add more emphasis on some of the characters physical state.  For example, as Micheal, the alcoholic, is drinking the juice, the effect of hearing the

Short film research: Double Happy/Drama

  If I had to pick one feature that distinguishes Double Happy, it is its keen observation of children—their shy gestures and bold dares, as well as the strange sociology of their group dynamics—the constant and fluid shifting of in-group and out-group designations achieved and enforced through secrets and put-downs. Even when you care, you can wind up stomping on each other at this age due to basic inexperience, fear, and carelessness. Rory likes Rebecca, and we get the impression that she reciprocates, yet Rory is a misfit, and the crises this produces can be seen on Rebecca's face.  While he has a thoughtfulness and talent for craft that will serve him well and make him interesting later in life, he currently has companions, particularly the other lad, Des, who are attempting to tear him down in order to demonstrate supremacy. Genre Research: Nightmare Alley

  What elements (Conventions) of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Nightmare Alley uses costumes and makeup to emphasize characters and the setting that the movie is placed in. It also uses lighting and camera angles to create suspense, even when the scene is not necessarily  “suspenseful”.  What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you like? I really liked the dialogue in this movie. The dialogue created a feel that camera angles and other conventions could not. I enjoyed it because there could be many different interpretations of each piece of dialogue, so it was based on how you viewed it, not how the director wanted you to view it. What elements (Conventions) of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? The soundtrack in this movie did not really interest me.
